Recipe From: The Fire Hub
Ingredients:
Sweet Dough:
1 1/2 cups water
3 eggs
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups salt
1 tbsp cinnamon
3/4 cups shortening
2 1/2 + 1/8 cups bread flour
Apple Filling:
7 apples, peeled, cored, and cubed
1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp cloves
Topping:
1 1/2 tbsp cinnamon
1 cup sugar
Oil to fry
Directions:
Mix all sweet dough ingredients together in a large bowl until fully incorporated.
Mix all apple filling ingredients together in a medium bowl.
Gently flatten the dough to about a one-inch thickness. Pour the apples on top of half of the dough, and fold the other half over the top.
Using a bench scrapper, roughly chop the entire slab of dough until the apples are fully incorporated throughout.
Using three-inch biscuit cutter, portion the dough into rounds and place on a pan. Let sit in the fridge to cool for 30 minutes.
Using either a deep fryer or a deep skillet on the stove, pre-heat oil to 350°F. Once dough is cold, place rounds in oil and fry until golden brown, about 5 minutes on each side.
Remove from fryer and roll dough in cinnamon sugar mix.
