I’d like some more peas, please…

Peas are excellent legume to add to your diet! They support your health with antioxidants, anti inflammatory nutrients as well as omega-3 fatty acids (ALA). These easy to grow plants can be added to your garden, having many companion plants that make great neighbors: beans, carrots, celery, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, radishes, spinach, tomatoes and turnips. You’ll want to keep them away from the allium family though (onion, garlic, shallots, leeks) as the pea growth can be stunted.

Peas are a vine plant and are beautiful as they begin to flower and produce pea pods. They are easy to grow, needing little to no care

Many of our vendors still have peas for you to purchase this growing season. Take some time to visit us at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday 7:00-2:00pm. Yesterday kids from the Kzoo Parks and Rec Summer Program stopped by to tour the market and learn about peas and how they grow! Encourage your own child to learn about the food that makes up their diet. Check out fun activities below:

Above are peas from Scobey's Produce, and seeds in bags for the kids to learn about sprouting plants.
