How-to Compost at the Market

The Kalamazoo Farmers Market is committed to becoming a zero waste market. The 5 R’s which guide zero waste choices are refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, rot. At the market, we provide customers with the opportunity to rot, or compost, their waste instead of sending it to the landfill.

Located around the market are waste pods which include containers for compost, recycling, and landfill. Our partners at The Bike Farm take all compostable materials generated at the market. In addition, customers can drop off their home food waste for a small fee at The Bike Farm’s tent, located in the courtyard.
